Apartments for Low Income

Apartment Videos

July 12, 2012

This short documentary completed in January of 2011 was edited from news video footage taken by Kingsport Times-News reporter Jeff Bobo while covering the this story between 2008-10. The “Of One Accord” ministry based in Rogersville, TN. raised money to move an 84-year-old woman living in extreme squalor into a refurbished home. Although the news articles were award winners, the video cinematography and sound is not always good, which diminishes from the engaging story in the film. This film has been rejected by four film festivals including Southern Appalachian International Film Festival in Kingsport, TN, Atlanta Shorts Festival, Atlanta Documentary Festival and the Reel-to-Reel Festival near Charlotte, NC
Video Rating: 4 / 5

I appreciate you sharing this with us. The people that helped Virgie changed her life, and now Virgie’s had an impact on my life, and someday maybe I can do something good that will change someone else’s life in turn. When you think about it, good deeds keep giving. Bless Virgie’s sweet heart, I hope she’s found rest.

Poor old woman. You live your life in poverty and when you finally get a decent trailer house, you have to invite those no good god suckers and their cameras in anytime they want. Makes me puke. Do something to help and then leave folks the fuck alone. jesus suckers.

Virgie passed away on March 19th of this year. She got to live in a decent place for almost 2 years. What a blessing.

As I watched the grandson, he talked almost exclusively about himself, his problems, and dominated the conversation. Didn’t say much abt grandma, except to make himself look good. Classic behavior of a manipulative, controlling, abusive person. Glad he was soon out of the picture.

If he got a free lawnmower he would have sold it for ..whatever. He’s a thief and sure trashed up her deck and yard with tools, car parts and junkers in a very short period of time. She’s too afraid to cross him and just agrees with him. He’s back where he belongs. If I lived near her, I would be checking in on that sweet lady on a regular basis.

he wants a lawn mower for his gokart piece of shit.

I thought it was a specialty lens … the kind used for filming UFOs and Bigfoot.

I’m from S.E. Kentucky and have seen and still see this kind of poverty and living conditions. Appalachia is one of the areas with a huge need of help. And yes, I guarantee that Ms. Vergie has many many tales to share about her life.

This video made me sad but made me so happy also. I live here in the mountains of Western NC and growing up I recall having to go outside to use the bathroom and take baths standing up or in a sink. I pray GOD will bless everyone who has help this wonderful lady so she would be able to enjoy her life until the LORD calls her home. I bet she would have some great tales to tell you about her life in the mountains. Hill folks are always good folk and I am proud to be one. GOD bless you all!!!

My neighbors which include the parents, five kids including the ex con grandpa all live in a single wide trailer that is in the condition of Virgie’s original house. It’s sad the condition some people are forced to live in with little help out there available.

  12. RATHAHONNIJul 12, 2012 at 10:15 am

The Clan should keep an eye on that Grandson.

wow this camera isn’t that bad just watch this story and stfu people like you are a fucking disgrace what are you 10?

I just watched this documentary for the first time a few days ago and was beyond horrified by the conditions that Virgie was living in. Her story really illustrates how much can be accomplished when the community can come together to help one of their own. I can’t believe so many film festivals turned this down-if it was because of the audio/video quality, then shame on them, because I didn’t have an issue with either of those-it’s the story that really counts. Well done.

That no count grandson wouldn’t have even showed his face had Mamaw stayed in the old house. He just wants to get his grubs on that trailer. Reckon he’s got a warm dry bed in jail.

I grew up in a house just like this, but not in Appalachia. My family home was 30 miles from the state capitol, yet we were so good at hiding the condition of our circumstances, no one really knew the extent of it.

Her daughter needs the taste slapped outta her mouth for letting her mother live in that hell hole! Second, if that gutless, cowardly son of a bitch grandson were in front of me I would fuck him up to within an inch of his sorry ass life. Beating and terrorising an elderly lady is the lowest of the low. He aint a real man..COWARD!!!

  19. TheEDDIETHEBUCKJul 12, 2012 at 1:37 pm

Thank you GreasyCreek12345 for posting this heart touching story about this sweet elderly Lady. Thanks also to the good people for getting her a MUCH better place to live, and for helping her with food. Her grandson ought to be ashamed of himself for trashing up her new place, and becoming another burden on her, rather than a helper.Thats about as low as a person can get,in my opinion of course.PS:He and his adulteress girl friend probably ett all the fruit.(censored)(censored)
