Quadra Villa Tenants Face Eviction As Developer Seeks Improvements

December 12, 2012 http VICTORIA – To the eye, Quadra Villa needs a lot of work. After years of being neglected by the former owner, the sixty four unit complex comprised of two and three bedroom units needs major upgrades .New windows, doors, balconies and some structural attention. But that involves evicting tenants, many of whom are low income and have lived there for years. League Assets Corp. bought the complex in June of 2011 and has plans to renovate all the units, and add two additional apartment rental units. Under the Residential Tenancy Act it is giving two months notice, and reimbursing tenants one month rent if they are out by June 30th. Devon Properties has been hired to help relocate people, however many are worried they wont be able to find suites for the same rent that allow pets. The average rent being paid is between 0 and 00 dollars. The City of Victoria tabled the issue for Thursday nights council meeting, concerned not enough low income housing units are being allocated in the new development. League says a plan to set aside seven units is in place, and they will continue to work with the City and community as the development plan moves forward in the coming months.
