Your Questions About Apartments For Low Income College Students

Santa Monica City College: Student Housing?
I posted this days ago & no answers..
If one were to attend Santa Monica City College for their first two years of college and then plan on transferring, and wanted to be right in the middle of all the fun stuff in that area (The nice beaches, easy access to downtown L.A., cool nightlife areas, Hollywood, Anaheim, Orange County, Malibu, Beverly Hills, Sports and concert venues, etc.), where would be the best area/place to live in for A STUDENT. By student, I mean not a whole ton of money (maybe 20-25 k per year income), and someone who will probably spend a lot of their time working and going to classes. What are some good areas that are at least a bit more affordable than some others, low crime, easy access to most of the cool stuff, easy access to SMC, and near the beach? This is all figurtive (for the moment), just looking for any suggestions. Are high rise apartments on the Santa Monica Beach and surrounding areas out of the question? Any other suggestions? Anything is appreciated
Administrator answers:
I would try the palms /cheviot hills area (as appaently a lot of students live in this area and Santa Monica Big Blue bus
has a direct bus from this area direct to both SMC Campuses
(Bundy and the main campus)
and the bus is free if you have current student ID to show to the operator

Ken asks…
Full time student renting an apartment?
I am looking to be put on a lease with another girl who already rents the apartment with someone else. I am a full time student without an income of my own but with good credit. The apartment is corporate-managed, so I’m not dealing with a landlord face-to-face. Since my income is so low, will that instantly reject my application to the building? They said it was just for a credit check, but I know they care about income. My college is paying my off-campus housing through a loan that pays my tuition too, but I have plenty of money set aside just for rent per month, so paying for the apartment is absolutely not a problem. But how can I let them know that? Also, if my application is rejected, can I then ask to be signed in with a co-signer or guarantor? Or would it have said that directly on the application? All the app asked was for criminal history, employment, car, etc. When I put full time student on the employment, she asked me how much my school gave me. (continued)
If I put full time student and my income as $1450 a month, doesn’t this look bad? I only put $1450 because that’s what GW gives me just for rent, which is plenty.
So what I basically want to know is, how can I guarantee my getting to be put on this lease? I can have a co-signer, I can provide documentation of loan payments, anything. I just really want to rent the room in this place
What can I do post application rejection for the same place?
Ps. My rent would be around $1200, with all utilities.
Administrator answers:
As a fulltime student the apartment complex will be familliar with your situation. With that income you should get the apartment no problem.

George asks…
Help Me Please I Am Being Abuse By My Father?
Hello I am being abuse by my father he calls me losers and bitches and whores and all types of name. He use to beat my mother but now they are divorce and she is married to some other selfish ex jailbird she met of the internet. I am from an African American background and I have been talking to this middle age Whiteman from Manchester who is in his 40s. We talk on the web cam and Skype all the time, sometimes even when my dad is acting crazy he sees me crying after the abuse has happened. I don’t have a college degree and I am working on an internship right now, so there are no funds for me to leave, my student aid for school has been taking a while and the only thing I have to survive on is food stamps. I want to be a Pharmacist and I am going to school for that and for design, I can’t afford all my class books right now and I am only taking one college class this semester.
I have been really sad and I over eat and I weigh about 200 lb right now. I have always been the beautiful type of girl had never had problems finding a boyfriend, even when I was skinny I liked dating big guys because I am attractive to them. The guy I met on my web cam is also a bit chubby but more so than me and he is such a sweetheart to me, he has broken down crying a few times because he can’t stand to see the abuse I go through with my dad. He has offered for me to come down to Manchester and stay with him an while I go to school and try to work also. So I have been looking at passports and work visa so hopefully after the hire on at this internship I can save some of my money to be able to leave. I have been abuse so much that I don’t really like black men and don’t date them being that my father is black. But the British guy has his on house and no one lives there but him and he got an extra room also. Even though he is older than me I have always been attracted to older white men even when I was a teenager and they attracted to me also.
I don’t look like my father he is ugly and very black and he is country, so he has a stupid ass mindset that the Whiteman takes everything away from the brother man. I know my family would flip out if they knew I was talking to an older Whiteman, because they are not as open minded as I am to dating outside my race. I have really felt in love with this man, and I can look in his eyes and see he is concern.
I have to do something quick my dad has treated to kill me if I don’t leave and he also treated to poison my food also. The births guy has my address in America I gave him for my safety o in case he doesn’t here from me he can tell the police about my dad. Also I have done recordings of him abusing me while on my computer but never recorded him saying he was going to kill me. He likes to throw stuff and break stuff in the house. I am sleeping on the floor in his living room because there is only on bedroom.
I am so ashamed of my situation my best friend doesn’t even know or my coworkers or classmates don’t know either. My family knows how my dad is but they all live with low income and they only care about themselves. My dad has encouraged me to kill myself that it would be a lot off his hands if I did so and that he is ashamed that he can’t tell his coworkers good things about his kids like they do, like graduating and getting their master’s degree and buying a new car. I have nothing no car, no degree, no apartment, and no income except food stamps. I am afraid for my life every day and all the shelter s and abuse centers are filled up in my area. I have a appointment with a college counselor this week I just started.
My grandma is just as abusive as my dad and told him not to let me back in the house. They are all wealthy people on my dad side of the family but only care about themselves, and they all don’t like my mother so I and my sisters are left out from luxuries like cars for graduations and wedding gifts. My grandparent basically disowns us because of the resentment toward my mother.
I can’t stay at my mom’s place because her husband doesn’t want anyone there, plus he doesn’t even tae care of his own kids. I have never experience so much love from my own race like I have this British guy and it kind of hurts. I have always been put down and made fun of by other African American people. So it’s like I feel I don’t really fit in with being black. I don’t act ghetto and I am a very friendly and respectful person in public. I wish I could tell my intern supervisor what is going on she will have to see how the budget is next month for me to be able to get hired. I want to tell her that I am in a life or death situation and need to make some money so I can get out not just keep volunteering.
My dad is a hoarder also and the place is not livable I have to keep a computer by my side because it is need for my design degree and artwork. He has a gun in the house and he illegally smokes marijuana I want to be away from all t
My dad is a hoarder also and the place is not livable I have to keep a computer by my side because it is need for my design degree and artwork. He has a gun in the house and he illegally smokes marijuana I want to be away from all the ignorant abusive family in my life and I want to go to Manchester England and be with the British guy. I do have feeling and sexual attraction towards him also. He wants me to finish school in America but has changed his mind and is too worried that my dada may harm me and told me to enroll into the college up there. I already have enrolled into the college in England and soon as I start working I will save up my money for a passport and visa and airplane ticket.
I would never have thought I would try to date someone off the internet and I know this is a risk, but I have had guns pulled on me, robbed, date raped and abuse why not try to take the chance of living a better life. I have no intentions on coming back to America to visit my family they ha
(cont). they have hurt me too much. I don’t want my future kids to be around ignorant racist ghetto people either I want them too experience a different life in another country.
I just want to leave so bad I have no other choices right now but the United Kingdom, none of my family members will take me in. I basically have no family. I am so worried

People/parents tear you down to build themselves up- Think about this for awhile. Words are not said to help you at all. Its only a trick to make abusers/parents feel good. When people are sick they say mean things to feel better. This goes for people at school as well.
Abusers use put downs, ignoring or hitting. You are tricked and thats why you feel bad. Abusers lie and have lies mixed with past truths other times. They have problems so its not your fault. Hurting people hurt others and were abused themselves. You are being abused.
Divorce, father gone, abuse, ignoring can make children grow up with all types of so called “Mental Problems” or turn them into abusers. Know mean people often are calling you names of mental disorders to abuse you. The “Chemical Imbalance” claim is false. It has been thoroughly discredited by researchers. There is No test for imbalances..-Quakery exposed. ” Its total fraud” — Dr. Fred Baughman Neurologist.
Live away from all abusers verbal or physical and never go back. Dont speak to them. They will never change unless forced.
Remember- Read 20 sites daily on Emotional Abuse- also Tell your teacher.
God wants you to Forgive- which does not require talking to them again- Call Child Protective Services transitional housing to age 21.

Last year, after attending an Environmental Studies seminar at Columbia University, I became more environmentally conscious and I was inspired to start taking responsibility for my actions in the ecological sphere I live in. I decided that I wanted to learn more about the environment through the Advanced Placement course of Environmental Science. However, my high school didn’t offer the class. I took the initiative to discover more about the earth I live in on my own through Independent Study. Independent Study opened me up to a new way of learning. Instead of being forced to learn about topics I had no interests in, I had a chance to learn something on my own; something that taught me so much.
Although my independent study experience taught me to be more active on environmental issues, I never thought that I would have the opportunity to apply what I learned in a real life setting. After winning an academic scholarship from National Geographic to attend a Student Expedition to Tanzania, my true knowledge of Environmental Science was put to the test. Under the guidance of Anna Estes, an expert on spatial and temporal habitat use of elephants in the Serengeti, I evaluated the impacts of human activity on wildlife in the savannah. I spoke with Safari staff about recent poaching conflicts and with their help, I collected and analyzed data that I used in a report, which I sent to National Geographic for publication. In addition, I also produced ethnographies on Tanzanian residents, in which I compared everyday life for Maasai children with the lives of children in subsistence agricultural villages.

Administrator answers:
I suggest that you read over actual student reviews of many people who attended there and see what grades, test scores, and extracurriculars they had to get in successfully. You also will get lots of information about the school you will not get in a college guidebook.

Administrator answers:
I would say you have more of a likelihood of acceptance than not, but as you pointed out, your SAT score will be your down fall. 1880 is low for top private schools. I can’t give you a percentage because you never know with private schools anyway as they turn away “perfect” students with GPAs over 4.00 and a perfect 2400.
On a side note, none of your AP classes will get you credit at Stanford. And since your family makes less than 100,000 a year, you are entitled to free tuition at Stanford should you get in.
I wish you luck and hope you don’t stress over it too much. Take a deep breath and concentrate on your senior year and relax just a tad.
