Ken asks…

I am looking for a apartment in Manhattan (preferably as cheap as I can get it). Where can I get information?

Also I am going to school but the dorms are a little too expencive for me! Is there any govement help for first time renters int N.Y. or am I just s.o.l.!

Administrator answers:

If you’re looking for cheap, don’t look in Manhattan unless you don’t mind living in Harlem. Try looking in Brooklyn or Queens near a subway line. In NYC, living in other boroughs can be a quicker commute than living in certain parts of Manhattan. Also check Jersey City. The PATH train is very good, making stops at WTC, Christopher, 9th, 14th, 23rd and 33rd.

Betty asks…

Administrator answers:

Brooklyn is not that bad. There are some good neighborhood and some that are in need of improvement, which is happening.

Brooklyn, on the other hand, does have some afforable places to live. A few of them I would recommend:

-Park Slope
among others.

I hope this information is very helpful.
