Your Questions About Where Are The Lowest Property Taxes

May 10, 2013

Chris asks…

How can I lower my property taxes in northwestern Florida?

I plan on buying a house and I don’t want to be cheated of of anything. Are there any ways to lower my property taxes?

Administrator answers:

Once you are in the home, and your market value has gone down you can apply to the county to reduce your property taxes
but if you are buying it now and more than likely at a much lower price your property taxes probably have already been reduced
but that does not prevent you from trying

Donald asks…

Looking for info to lower property taxes in California?

I am looking for the website with the pdf application to adjust/lower your property taxes in California (San Diego). I used to have it written down but I can’t find that information.

Serious answers only please…thank you!

Administrator answers:

What you are looking for is an application for change of assessment with the Assessment Appeals Board.

Here is the link for the AAB in SD County:

http://www.sdcounty.ca.gov/cob/aab/index.html

Towards the middle/bottom is the link for the “Application For Changed Assessment – PDF Version.”

There are also links on how to complete the form.

Hope this helps!

Linda asks…

How much is the average property tax ?

Ive read that my state has some of the lowest property taxes in the US. (And also the worst schools)

Anyway, my valuation per the state is about $74,000 and my property tax runs $323.

What would be the average property tax ? The high end ?

Thanks

PS, if it matters, I get a $53 homestead exemption and the millage rate is .0501.

Administrator answers:

Dear N: My state average is just below 1% – you are about 1/2 that and I would say on the low end.

High end 1%+

My state also gives a rebate for low income or renters.

Daniel asks…

How can you lower property taxes in Jupiter Farms, Florida?

I have heard that in some places you can reduce your property taxes for having farm animals/livestock on your property, such as horses, pigs, goats, etc. I have also heard the same with growing trees or a plant “nursery.” Is this true? If so, how does it work? And, if not, how else can I lower the property taxes?
Thanks!

Administrator answers:

You would probably have to ask the county tax assessor for a property re-assessment – no guarantee it will go down – it could go up
